February 20, 2002 - 1.02 pm It's time my friends, for the PULL QUOTES GAME! That means I'm going to pull some quotes from the ever-helpful critiques of my classmates. So, without further ado!!! "What really stuck out in my mind about this story was the fact that I read it thinking the protagonist was a woman but when the gender was revealed at the end, I was forced to read it over from the point of veiw of a gay man." "The details really made the story flow and added to the depressing but enlightening tone. . ." "In the future, you might consider using a narrarator who is not so self-absorbed and self-pitying." "I thought the story lacked conflict and kept the reader uninterested." "I don't mean to be mean, but this story was incredibly boring." There were lots of comments about edge and not enough and blah blah blah. I'm debating between burning these "critiques" or having them framed because when I publish something I'm gonna send ALL OF THEM A COPY. Better yet, when I write a top 10 book, I'm going to frame the New York Times article and send a copy to each and every one of them. Addendum: I tried to come off as not really minding these critiques but I do mind. Pardon me for being a bit of an anger ball, but if they were CONSTRUCTIVE in ANY way, I'd not be so embittered and hurt., But no. They're just like, duh huh, no drugs, no sex, no booze, why read? And the "professor" didn't say a word. Bah.
