S and I went to see Wonderful Town here on campus recently. It was so much fun! It's a story of two sisters, who move to New York from Ohio, and in typical musical fashion, they become sucessful singer and writer, they fall in love and live happily ever after. But it's FUN. Ruth, the main character is sort of a nerdy, insecure writer, living with her airheaded, but sweet, beautiful sister. They're fun characters.

I thought about when we did that show in high school. I was Mrs. Wade, ever the mother, and my daughter was this immensly talented then sophomore, (now graduated, and in her freshman year of college)Ruth and Eileen (the sisters) were played by two other Emily's (an Emelie and an Emily), immensly talented girls, L was the assistant director, and the director, Renee was this young, hip girl, and her husband, Brandon, could play the piano like nobodies business. He was fun. I clearly remember one night -- it was finish week, (two weeks before opening week) and the set still wasn't done, so a bunch of us, including, L, A and I stuck around after rehersal and worked on the set. Bopping around, singing, playing, getting work done, throwing paint at each other, and ordering pizza, sitting in a circle on the stage floor laughing until we thought our sides would split. I MISS moments like that. I miss having an extra-curricular. I miss having that sort of snooty "I'm an actor."

And sitting in that theater, I missed it. I really really really really really miss doing theatre, rehearsing, auditioning, I'd love to be able to play with a lightboard for a while. I miss that creative outlet. I miss creating that other world, I miss the oppurtunity for socialization that it provided. I miss the big dreams.

Don't get me wrong. I have this Humanities recitiation, where we disuscuss literary and artistic movements, and I love that kind of bigness too. I love pyschology, I love writing, but I think I'll probably audition for some things next year, and try to do something with theatre this summer.

Goodnight from a very confused,

Emily
