Today, my friends, we're taking a lyrical journey. I'm giving you some of the lyrics to the soundtrack of my life of late. Enjoy!

What Matters

Edwin McCain

(the version I have is performed acousitically with Jewel)

Did you forget about the passion

Of living day to day

We keep our dreams locked up inside

Choking on a lifetime

We never take a chance

And wake up one day wishing we had tried

And it ain't about the money

It aint about the time

It aint about the love you lost

Or the things you think you left behind.

It ain't about the losing streak makes you feel like you're falling apart

What matters is the heart.

Let's forget about the notion that we're not the same.

My blood runs are red as yours.

We all get angry.

We've all been scared.

We've all made big mistakes that can never be repaired.

And it ain't about the money

It aint about the time

It aint about the love you lost

Or the things you think you left behind.

It ain't about the losing streak makes you feel like you're falling apart

What matters is the heart.

Look me in the eyes, take my hand.

We can make a difference, we can make a difference, I know we can.

Have you forgotten about the passion

Of living day to day

We keep our dreams locked up inside.

Choking on a lifetime

we never take a chance

We wake up one day wishing we had tried.

And it ain't about the money

It aint about the time

It aint about the love you lost

Or the things you think you left behind.

It ain't about the losing streak makes you feel like you're falling apart

What matters is the heart.

Both Sides Now

Joni Mitchell

(the scene that this song is in from Life as a House, that movie that no one saw with Kevin Kline and Hayden Christensen, is so good it makes my skin crawl, even though I've seen the movie like a dozen times. Actually, the whole movie's like that, really.)

Rows and flows of angel hair

And ice cream castles in the air

Feathered canyons everywhere

I've looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun

They rain and they snow on everyone

So many things I would have done

But clouds got in my way

I've looked at clouds from both sides now

From up and down, and still somehow

It's cloud illusions I recall

I really don't know clouds at all.

Moons and Junes and Ferris Wheels.

The dizzy dancing way that you feel

As every fairytale comes real

I've looked at love that way.

But now it's just another show

You leave them laughing when you go

And if you care, don't let them know

Don't give yourself away

I've looked at love from both sides now

From give and take

And still somehow

It's loves illusions that I recall.

I really don't know love

I really don't know love at all.

Tears and fears and feeling proud

To say I love you right out loud

Dreams and schemes and circus crowds

I've looked at life that way

But now old friends are acting strange

They shake their heads

And they tell me that I've changed

Well, something's lost

And something's gained

In living every day

I've looked at life from both sides now.

From win and lose

And still somehow

It's life's illusions

I recall.

I really don't know life at all.

It's life's illusions that I recall.

I really don't know life,

I really don't know life at all.

Beautiful

Christina Aguliera

(I know it's classified as like bubblegum pop, but I love the album Stripped. It's so powerful and reclaiming. This has been my song lately. I'm trying hard to believe it.This isn't quite the whole song, but you know it gets into some ad-libbing and stuff that's hard to transcribe)

Every day is so wonderful

And suddenly, it's hard to breathe

Now and then, I get insecure

From all the fame, I'm so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say

Words can't bring me down

I am beautiful in every single way

Yes, words can't bring me down

So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends, you're delirious

So consumed in all your doom

Trying hard to fill the emptiness

The piece is gone and the puzzle undone

That's the way it is

You are beautiful no matter what they say

Words won't bring you down

You are beautiful in every single way

Yes, words won't bring you down

And that was the heavy stuff! I also love She Hates Me by Puddle of Mudd, but the lyrics aren't really inspiring or deep or anything. It's just fun to sing at the top of your lungs with the windows rolled down. With the radio or without. :)

The Middle

Jimmy Eat World

(Katie hates this song. I love it. It seems to come on at oppurtune times.)

Hey

Don't write yourself off yet

It's only in your head you feel left out

Looked down on.

Just try your best

Do everything you can

Don't you worry what they tell themselves

When you're away

It just takes some time

Little girl you're in the middle

It'll up the ride

Everything everything will be just fine

Everything everything will be all right

Hey, you know

They're all the same

You know you're doing better on your own

So don't buy in

Live right now

Yeah, just be yourself

It doesn't matter if it's good enough

For someone else

It just takes some time

Little girl you're in

The middle of the ride

Everything everything will be just fine

Everything everything will be alright.

Hey

Don't write yourself off yet

It's only in your head you feel left out

Looked down on.

Just do your best

Do everything you can

And don't you worry what their bitter hearts

Are gonna say

It just takes some time

Little girl you're in

The middle of the ride

Everything everything will be just fine

Everything everything will be alright, alright.

It just takes some time

Little girl you're in

The middle of the ride

Everything everything will be just fine

Everything everything will be alright.

Little Miss Magic

Jimmy Buffet

(My Dad used to sing this to me. Nuff said.)

Constantly amazed by the blades of the fan on the ceiling.

The clever little glances she gives me can't help but be appealing

She loves to ride into town with the top down

Feel the warm breeze on her gentle skin

She is my next of kin.

I see a little more of me everyday

I catch a little more mustache turning gray

Your mother is the only other woman for me

Little Miss Magic whatcha going to be

Sometimes I catch her dreaming

And wonder where that little mind meanders

Is she strolling long the shore

Or crusing over b

I know someday she'll learn to make up her own rhymes

Someday she's gonna learn how to fly

Oh that I can't deny.

I catch a little more dialouge comming my

I see those big brown eyes just to looking astray

Your mother's still the only other woman for me

Little Miss Magic, whacha gonna be?

Yes she loves to ride into town with the top down

Feel that warm breeze on her gentle skin

She is my next of kin.

Constantly amazed by the blades of the fan on the ceiling.

The clever little looks that she gives just can't help but be appealing

I know she'll learn to make up her own rhymes

One day she's gonna learn how to fly

Oh that I can't deny.

I see a little more of me everyday

I catch a little more mustache turning gray

Your mother is the only other woman for me

Little Miss Magic whatcha going to be

Little Miss Magic just can't wait to see.

It's raining, it's pouring, your old man is snoring.

This is all I can think of right now. Also, I'm tired of transcribing. :) Hope you enjoyed our lyrical journey. :) Erin, you can't bug me about updating any more.
